A lightened up version of your favorite fall dessert, this maple whiskey apple cinnamon crisp is naturally sweetened with maple syrup and coconut sugar and topped with a deliciously crunchy cinnamon pecan oat topping. A healthier apple crisp that’s gluten free, refined sugar free, dairy free and vegan.
You’d never know this apple cinnamon crisp recipe was lightened up and a little bit healthier for you. Instead of using regular sugar like most apple crisp recipes call for, I used coconut sugar in the topping and maple syrup in the filling. I also used gluten free wholesome flour in the topping instead of regular gluten free flour which adds whole grains, fiber, and omega fatty acids. Also, by subbing coconut oil for butter makes this apple cinnamon crisp both dairy free and vegan. This is a dessert everyone can enjoy!
The best part of any crisp is the crunchy oat topping, and this one is to die for. I partnered with Bakery on Main on this apple crisp recipe and used their certified gluten free happy rolled oats. The topping also has chopped pecans, coconut sugar, cinnamon, and coconut oil. I absolutely love this topping because not only does it contain Bakery on Main oats, but the pecans add the perfect crunch and nuttiness.
As far as the filling goes, don’t forget about the gluten free whiskey! Although it isn’t completely necessary, it adds such a wonderful depth of flavor to the crisp. This maple whiskey apple cinnamon crisp is everything you could want in a dessert. It’s warm, cozy, juicy, comforting, and will make your stomach very happy.
Serve this apple cinnamon crisp warm with your favorite vanilla ice cream or my homemade vanilla whiskey yogurt cream.
